As promised, this post will include details about Andrea and Steve’s wedding day. I met Andrea and Steve in August. We met through a friend – Andrea needed a photographer and Rita was keeping up with my latest work on Facebook. She sent Andrea and Steve my way and after a long, thorough talk about their vision for their wedding day photography, we began looking for available dates and places for their engagement session.
Their engagement session took place on the University of Texas campus – Steve had wonderful ideas for certain pictures and we went with the flow. They were very laid back! The engagement session was a great opportunity for them to get to know me a little better…for them to realize that I’ll climb and jump off of almost anything… and for me to realize that they don’t really like PDA. This time together prepped us for their upcoming wedding, but what added to the ease of their wedding was Andrea’s preparation/organization and their Wedding Coordinator, Mary.
Andrea had a very detailed list of photographs she wanted. I’m very list-driven – it makes me feel comfortable, at-ease and prepared. Mary emailed a moment-by-moment plan of what was to happen during the wedding. With Mary and Andrea’s lists, I was able to merge the two into a plan of action for myself and my husband (Dustyn, who was my second shooter). The entire time, I knew where he was, we weren’t duplicating the same picture over and over, and we weren’t stressing out. [To all future brides, I cannot stress how helpful this was. Be in close contact with your wedding planner and your photographer - this will help ensure that you get what you want and for people like me, it makes things flow perfectly!]
Dustyn and I arrived at the Austin Women’s Club at 4:00 and began setting up equipment, planning out where we’d each be, and taking photographs while the Bride and Groom were en route to the location. I had brief sessions with the Bride, Groom, and Bridal party before the ceremony began at 5:00. The sun was to set at 5:37, therefore the ceremony was brief. With Mary’s help, we breezed through all the family portraits, and I had just enough time to spend with Andrea and Steve before we lost the last bit of sun.
We were able to take advantage of the most gorgeous sunset just as it was fading away into the night. My goal was to try to capture the sunset, while not making Andrea and Steve silhouettes. The resulting photographs, found in the slideshow below, are phenomenal. They embraced the moment and did such a wonderful job posing, making my job a breeze!
The rest of the evening was full of heart-felt toasts from the fathers, wonderful dancing, lots of celebrating, cake-cutting, and mingling. I’ve only just begun filtering through the photographs from Andrea and Steve’s wedding, but I will continue to add to this slideshow.
