Scouting | Austin Photographer

I used to post a lot more about me. I think the people who read my blog frequently used to learn a lot more about me. But, I got busy, and I began focusing primarily on my clients. I think that’s definitely the appropriate thing to do, but today, I want to share a little bit of me.  Or rather, a little bit about Magan’s Lens.

Austin is one of the most incredible places to live. There’s a variety of locations and changes in scenery. I don’t know everything Austin has to offer. I don’t want to be the photographer that constantly uses the same go-to spots {not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but I am a girl who likes change}. However, I also like to have an idea of what the location is like before taking a client there. While I like change, I also like to be organized and prepared. Hence the reason I do location scouting.

Back in February, my friend Barbara and her precious daughter Genny went location scouting with me. Neither of us had shot at Laguna Gloria and we wanted to check it out. Barbara is not only a great friend, she’s also an Austin Photographer. You can check out her work here.  There are so many advantages of location scouting. It gets me out of the house – I get to play and experiment. Though it seems that a photographer is constantly out shooting, it’s astounding the number of hours we actually sit behind a computer.  It also gives me the chance to play with my camera –  to test what I can do with it and try out new lenses. The day we went to Laguna Gloria, I was not yet the owner of the 50/1.2 lens. I had rented it and a fish-eye lens. I brought both along and played with them. I tested the focus and depth of field of the 50/1.2. And fell in love.

I love scouting days with Barbara. In fact, we’re going on another adventure tomorrow. Yippie! Here are images from our day at Laguna Gloria.  Enjoy!
