I’m exporting a client’s work right now and while my computer works diligently saving all of the photographs in their various formats, I’m reminiscing over my girls’ birthday party. In true Magan-fashion, I was terrible at planning the actual celebration; I was depressed about Gentry turning one and Everett turning three. Birthdays aren’t easy for me! They do a number on my heart.
We picked a day in mid-February, a few weeks after both girls’ actual birthdays. The week of, I was an Amazon Prime and Pinterest Queen. All of my ideas for this party came straight from Pinterest. And, well, Dustyn came up with everything on the exterior – all the games, setting up the bouncy house my sister thoughtfully gifted us a few years ago, table placement – EVERYTHING. I didn’t even walk outside until the party was underway and guests had arrived. I should mention that Everett told me she wanted two things for her party when we discussed a “theme:” a picnic and broccoli. It doesn’t seem like I got a photograph of the giant broccoli balloon I incorporated with the food table, but it was there. The picnic part was definitely fun!
This party was a true testament of me letting go of some CONTROL. I usually over-plan, over-stress, over-buy… and it makes me a huge basket case. I was so proud of all that Dustyn did for the party – he thought of games (bag toss), canvas painting (In theory, a good idea, but then a paint chase happened. Make sure you take note of E’s clothes in the photos.), chalkboard drawing (he built the chalkboards!), and he strung the banner I bought from Amazon across the yard.
For really trying to not stress about all the details, this was probably one of the most enjoyable parties we’ve thrown (except for last year’s – E’s 2nd birthday was at the Thinkery and it was wonderful because they did it ALL). Everett passed out glasses of lemonade to probably every single person at the party; she was obsessed with the lemonade dispenser. Gentry thoroughly enjoyed her red velvet cupcake.
Things felt very casual and go-with-the-flow. The weather was perfection and that was really awesome for all of our guests to have more room to feel comfortable, whether that was inside or out.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our friends and family for coming to our home! What a joy it was to have you celebrate our daughters with us! Thank you for being our support system, our sounding boards, and our listening ears. Thank you for loving our babies! <3
