About Magan

I feel as though it’s only fair to share about my life and who I am since my clients open their arms and welcome me into their families.

I am a born and raised Texas girl. I grew up in the small town of Dime Box, Texas. I graduated with a mere 23 people from a school that didn’t have a football team.  I originally began college at Texas A&M (my mom is an Aggie alum), but after my first year I married my husband Dustyn. He snagged a job at a great company here in Austin that would allow him to go back to school part time to get his masters. I transferred to the University of Texas (can I get a “Hook ‘em Horns!”?)  and found my way in the School of Architecture. I graduated with a degree in Interior Architecture; Dustyn and I packed up our belongings and headed to San Diego where I worked for a fantastic firm.

While I was in architecture school, I always considered switching to major in photography. The fear of being in school for three more years held me back, so I stayed where I was. I built upon my passion for photography by incorporating it into architecture. You’d be amazed at how important photography can be – everything had to be documented because models of projects eventually got destroyed. Upon graduation, I needed to have a portfolio to share with employers. Through this process of needing and relying on photography, my passion continued to grow.

Eventually, Dustyn and I decided to pack up and head back to hot and humid Texas; we missed our families entirely too much.  I found myself at one of life’s great crossroads; I quit my job in San Diego, hoping I could transfer to the Austin office, but due to the recession and lack of projects, I was unable to.  I finally decided that I was going to pursue photography wholeheartedly. I knew I had a lot to learn and there would be a huge learning curve, but something felt really right about deciding to get off the beaten path and try something new.  Magan’s Lens was created in the summer of 2009.

I am a really fun girl with two quirky dogs – a nine year old miniature dachshund, Camy, and a three year old cocker spaniel/beagle mix, Jules.  I am an avid reader, and spend as much time as I possibly can relaxing with a comfortable blanket and great read.  Dustyn and I love going to the movies together; we frequently have date nights seeing any random movie that strikes our fancy.  We attend an amazing church, the Austin Stone, that has really challenged us and forced us to grow.  I love doing Beth Moore studies; that woman’s big hair and fun outfits make me smile every time I see them.

I could continue to ramble on about who I am and how life has brought me to this place, but I’d really rather just know more about you. See the contact button on the menu bar?  Click it and send me a great email about you; tell me what your photography interests are and let’s start working to schedule your session!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Just in case you want to know what I look like… this is me {below}.
