[personal] Finished Project and My Girls

Dedication. I can be wholeheartedly dedicated to only a few things (photography, my husband, my clients, reading, knitting) at once or else I feel spread too thin. It happens to all of us. For me, it’s realizing when there is more than I can handle chaos might ensue. Despite my dedication to my Outlook calendar and my fetish with Post-it notes, there are still some things that slip my mind. Such as my [insert word here] Tuesday post.

It’s supposed to occur every Tuesday, but guess what? It’s been two and a half weeks and I’ve not posted one. I have been so dedicated to reading photography books, shooting more frequently, connecting with clients, and all the wifely duties I have that this has just slipped my mind. These past two Wednesdays, I pretty much felt like saying a Homer Simpson “DOH!” when I realized I’d forgotten.

To make up for my missing those two posts, I’m going to share a few personal things with you…

First up is a project I just completed for a friend. I learned how to knit late last October and this is only my fourth scarf to finish. I only know the garter stitch and can fudge my way through purling.  I’m sharing this project with you because it’s probably one of my favorites. I love the way it turned out. What do you think?  (Not posting a picture of what it looks like on because I want my friend to be the one to wear it… not me.)

Scarf02 [personal] Finished Project and My GirlsScarf03 [personal] Finished Project and My GirlsYou’ve met my dogs before here and here.  It’s been a while since I’ve discussed them, and they’ve been so much fun today that I wanted to share them with you again. We had a great walk after church. Only for me to then realize how stinky they were when we got back. I do NOT like bathing the dogs. It’s a process. Jules hates baths unless we smear the tub with peanut butter to keep her preoccupied the entire time (a trick learned from my sister-in-law, Leslie). It’s always after their baths that I crack up the most. Camy zips around the apartment running as quickly as she can, back and forth, to “air dry”. Jules runs for a little while, but then she starts rubbing her entire body along the bottom of the sofa, and all along the length of our apartment, one side of her body pressed to the floor the entire time.

They aren’t allowed on the sofa when they’re wet because… I don’t want to get wet.  Since it’s in the 30s today in Texas, our apartment is chilly (it’s older and not all that well insulated). We set up a little space heater for them to stay near as they dried off. Enough of my rambling… enjoy my girls, Jules and Camy.

Jules really isn’t a fan of photos.  She pretends to look at everything BUT me.

Check out Camy, resting her head on Jules. They’re usually not this “cuddly” with each other.

Jules04 [personal] Finished Project and My Girls

Camy was being smashed against the couch by Jules, but still fell asleep.

Camy01 [personal] Finished Project and My Girls

Jules is learning how to shake. She thinks she deserves a treat every. single. time.  Must be hard work being a dog.

Jules05 [personal] Finished Project and My Girls

She finally gave up playing with me and went to scope out the space heater.

Jules06 [personal] Finished Project and My Girls

I hope you’ve had a great weekend! Stay warm!

Austin Child Photographer | Celebrating Birthday No. 2

Dustyn and I have wonderful friends who were married just two months before we were. Dustyn attended college and had most of his classes with I (the Dad). Before our weddings, Dustyn introduced me to I and M. Very quickly, M and I (referring to me, not her husband) forged a friendship that turned into 6:00AM workouts on campus, running, talking, and doing homework together while sitting in the Student Union. When M graduated, campus felt a lot emptier without her presence.

Since our meeting almost six years ago, I and M have had two beautiful little girls, E and S. This session was to capture the perfect little picture of S to go on her birthday invitation, as she’s turning two years old very soon. I adore these girls. They have beautiful hearts, are so sweet and kind, and have wonderful imaginations that keep them playing for hours. S and E are very close in age, and they are the very best of friends. Their friendship is so precious. Enjoy these photos – I just let them play, see-saw, swing, and slide. My goal was to be unobtrusive, and to ask them inquisitive questions to make them smile or loosen up around me. Luckily, they love my little dog Camy, so she was a great conversational piece.

This is Miss E. Isn’t she beautiful?

E and S played on the See-Saw together for a while. E showed me her UT Horns!

S and E both had little bracelets and necklaces. You can see E’s necklace in one of the upper photos. S had several multi-colored bracelets. I remember playing with those too when I was little.

Buy Art! Help Haiti!

In Nashville, I made a wonderful new friend, Katy Southern. She is doing something really awesome to help raise money for Haiti. Visit her website www.katysouthern.com/blog to see some of the pieces she’s selling. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the money made on these prints is going to be sent directly to Haiti.

You may be wondering… if I purchase it, how will I receive the print (or canvas)? The company Katy uses for printing will deliver directly to your house. Though she’s in Tennessee, there’s absolutely not going to be a problem with you receiving your goods.

Here are a few screen shots of images she has posted. There are several more, so again, head over to Katy’s site and check it out.  If you have any questions whatsoever, email Katy at katy@katysouthern.com. Katy and I are asking, even if you can’t purchase art or don’t want to, please pray for Haiti.   {And check out the rest of Katy’s amazing photography.}

Just Released, Linsday Wynn’s “Interpreting Dreams”

I met Lindsay Wynn at the end of 2009. We did a photo shoot for her album that was soon to be released, Interpreting Dreams.  She and I met yesterday to catch-up. To my wonderful surprise, she gave me two copies of her album that was just released.  It was so exciting to see one of the photos from our session on the cover. Just looking at it kind of gives me chills. Lindsay is incredibly talented, beautiful, and has a wonderful heart. Click this link to visit her website and purchase her album. They are on sale now!

Here’s a bit of eye candy… the album cover and CD. Enjoy!

I’ve finally finished correcting all the sizes of my photos to add to this blog. There aren’t a ton, but I wanted to make sure it was all correct before sitting down to write. I wanted to be focused and ready to write this post, uninterrupted. You saw Day 01 of Nashville, ImagingUSA 2010 here, but now it’s time for the rest. And pictures. A blog post is always better with them. (If you are reading about this for the first time, go check out Day 01 first.)

19. Think about my friends B&K who are arriving in Texas Friday from PA!
20. Not a single good radio station.icon sad the rest of the story... nashville + imagingUSA
21. Knit for a while. Hoping to finish second scarf to give to friends at same time.
22. 10:03 arrive at parents house, where my sister has graciously taken care of my canine kids.
23. 11:20 I’m soooo beyond ready to get out of the car. Shower. Pajamas.
24. Can’t figure out where to begin tomorrow. Probably emailing and scheduling meetings.

And that was my trip. You might be wondering why in the heck I was sad to be leaving TN. I’ve always been this way – I get very connected to people. Very inspired by people. I was so overwhelmed by my thoughts, goals, dreams, everything I’d learned… and I was leaving the people I could ask questions. It’s seriously like being in this perfect little bubble where everything will work out perfectly, but then reality hits and I’m back on the road… and nothing is certain.

But here I am, and no matter what, I’m determined. I’m ready. Excited. Hopeful. Prayerful. ImagingUSA was one of the best experiences of my life and I’m so thankful they provided me with a free ticket to go (note to photographers: you get free admission to a conference your first year you join PPA).

Ketan - Hi Magan,

Hilarious post! I love the blow by blow commentary. Can totally identify with the buzz of your first convention!
Was fortunate to get front row seats to listen to a ‘random american’ speaker (Tamara) at the swpp convetion in London several weeks ago. Her talk coupled with Jerry Ghionis enegised me and affirmed my calling!
Hope you have an awesome year! K
