Yelp.com is Deleting my Reviews!

I’m slightly frustrated right now. Several of my clients have used yelp.com to review Magan’s Lens and three of the reviews are missing.  I didn’t delete them and they didn’t delete them!  I’ve been researching via google and found out this is a common occurence. When someone posts a review and it’s their only review, yelp takes that to mean that I’ve been posting my own reviews…GRR!

In the future, I will still gladly accept your yelp reviews, but I’m also going to incorporate them into a “review” section on the blog and/or website. If you’ve reviewed me and yours is missing from the website, please send it to me if you have a second. I’d be ever so thankful.

Stepping off the rant podium now…

Today is a wonderful day. I got to meet the Gundlach’s at McKinney Falls State Park where we walked and played while taking pictures. Belle, their very well-behaved-dog, had so much fun exploring. She is so well-trained that she didn’t hunt down the deer we saw when she heard one of her commands to leave it and forget it! How impressive! Can’t wait to share those photos with you.

In a mere 20 minutes I will be shooting (photographing) the O’Malleys. I adore this family and the session has been a long time in the making.  Yay!

Hope you’re all enjoying the beautiful weather… step away from the pumpkin pie making and go outside for a few minutes. It’s wonderful….

Child Portraits | Brayden

I have discovered over the last several weeks that I’m developing a complex. Not a bad one… actually, it’s quite the opposite. Every time I have a session and I’m editing photos, I think, “Wow. This has got to be one of my favorite sessions. Ever.” Let me throw in a disclaimer and say that’s not to take away from any of my clients – I absolutely love and adore you all.  This job is just so wonderful that I get to play and have fun doing something different every single time I work.  Some of the places might be the same, but overall, we occupy them in different ways and adore different things every time.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for each of my clients. You have been wonderful and I’ve established some amazing friendships.

Recently, I had the pleasure of stepping into the mindset of a four-year-old. I photographed Mr. Brayden, and he was awesome! I brought along my new favorite prop, a child-size, red leather chair. He had a blast playing around on it.  We moved around so much, as he explored, told me stories, and showed me all the awesome things he can do on his bike, scooter, the swing, etc. He worked on perfecting his modeling poses, where at one point, he was turning from side to side working all his angles. It took all of my strength not to crack up at his enthusiasm. (He even pretended to ride the scooter in the grass, all the while kicking his leg back like he was going places.)

I have two favorite memories from this session… the first was when his mom, Kelly, brought out a Dell mug filled with a drink. (I plead the fifth about whether it was coffee or not.)  Brayden wanted a sip, and I took the opportunity to photograph him gulping down the beverage on the red chair. I just love it – and I promise I was not trying to advertise for Dell intentionally. (…though my husband will probably start clapping at work when he sees the pictures… aka: he’s not a Mac guy.)  Second favorite moment was when we played in the leaves. Being in Austin, I don’t see a lot of great opportunities to play with the fall-colored leaves. However, there were tons surrounding us and we just threw them up in the air and played.  It’s wonderful to feel like a kid.icon smile Child Portraits | Brayden

Enjoy the session. Remember to mention the red chair for your session if you like it. It’s not hard to bring along…

Family Portraits | Penningtons & Hiltons

I love it when I get to photograph someone again, in this instance, the Pennington family.  You previously saw their session at Bull Creek, but this time, the session was with the Hilton family, Shane, Laura, and Hunter. Shane and Keri are brother and sister, so the session was for their family gift to their mother, a portrait with all 8 of them.  I knew from the Pennington session that they’d be up for doing anything I asked, and I was so excited to see how photogenic the Hilton family is. Don’t they look incredible? Hunter is 14 months old and the sweetest baby boy you will ever meet. He has a precious mouth full of teeth and loves to show them off. He loves his cousins, Hope, Hannah, and Clay and was always willing to send smiles and laughter in their direction.

We had a wonderful session at Mayfield Park, despite the mean man who was strolling around.  We found some beautiful fall-colored trees along the lake. Hope, Hannah, and Clay displayed their amazing tree-climbing skills and each took a turn posing in a tree for me. How brave they were… I might have chickened out if I had been asked to do some of the things I asked of them.

Enjoy their session. As always, leave a comment or two, even if it involves constructive criticism!

Wonderful Holiday Kick-Off

This was a loooong, but absolutely wonderful week. I wrapped up working on Andrea and Steve’s wedding photos. They (and by they, I’m referring to all 1455 photos) are all uploaded to photos.maganslens.com. Don’t feel overwhelmed though – they’re categorized in different folders so you can go take a peak at one specific element at a time! Enjoy…

I’ve just taken a first pass through Lindsay Wynn’s album portraits. She and I are going to collaborate about which ones to put up on the blog since she’ll be using some for her upcoming album. I’m so anxious to see which photos she picks. We took such a wide variety and I definitely have some favorites.  (More than some, actually… a LOT.)

The website, the real one, not just the blog is coming along fantastically. I’m about to spend a couple hours crunching away, working on picking out some of my favorite pictures to share… I’m hoping the official launch can happen in two weeks. That’s my goal. With Thanksgiving coming up this week, I’m crossing my fingers this is a realistic goal.

Did any of you venture to the Domain today? The lighting of the Macy’s Christmas tree and fireworks show was awesome. The cool weather and the atmosphere definitely put me in the Christmas mood. I think I might take a break tomorrow evening and put up my Christmas tree…

Final note: if you’re in need of Christmas portraits, Christmas cards, or Gift Certificates, email me ASAP. My schedule is filling up and I want to give you adequate time to look through your photos and plenty of time to place a print order.

Teaser: Lindsay Wynn

I have been witholding a gem of a person from you guys. I’m crunching away at a few big things right now, so I haven’t been able to do Lindsay’s session justice yet, BUT I got so excited just thinking about the upcoming edit fest… that I had to share.  Are you familiar with So You Think You Can Dance? There’s a judge, Mary Murphy, who puts really awesome dancers on her “hot tamale train”.  Well, maybe I should start one of those, too because Lindsay more than qualifies. Without any more details, here are two visuals (mind you out of nearly 600) to entice you to come back for more…
