Can you explain the cost of a session?
Absolutely. My focus is you. I don’t have a staff or outsource to anyone. Every aspect of Magan’s Lens is me, Magan. My goal is to create art. Custom art that doesn’t look like every other photographers work. To do so, I am investing in some of the best, highest quality equipment to really make the photos I capture set me apart from other photographers. My time and energy go into making that happen. There are so many answers to this question; please check out this website for a full explanation of cost and time.
Can I purchase the copyright to my photos?
The simple answer is no. When you purchase the DVD of images, I give you a print release that allows you to make personal copies of the photos. You are given a creative license to use the photos for your personal, non-commercial use. However, I always retain the copyright. They are my artistic work; when you sign a contact or model release, this gives me permission to use them on my website, blog, or submit them to wedding blogs (like Style Me Pretty or Austin Wedding Blog).
What equipment do you bring along on a session?
I have a camera bag with my primary camera (Canon 5D Mark II), and a back-up bag with a secondary camera. I bring multiple lenses (my new favorite lens is the 50mm/1.2) to allow me to get an array of shots. If you have a child that is shy, it might be best that I bring a zoom lens because he/she doesn’t want me to be in his/her personal space. This allows me to stay farther back, but still zoom in to get awesome close-up shots. Whereas, if you have an outgoing, extroverted child, I can use a prime lens or maybe a fish-eye to get totally unique, up-close photos. I bring reflectors, and a tripod as well. Extra batteries and flash cards are always tucked away in my camera bag.
I want to create a really unique photo with props. Are you okay with that?
…YES! Not a problem. I love parents or couples that have fun ideas. Bring it along. If you have questions about how it will work, give me a call. We can dream big together.
Do you have props that you bring along?
As of right now, I have a great custom, rustic, teal bench and a red leather child-size chair. I’m working on gathering more props, but if you’d like for me to bring either of these along, please let me know. For your babies, we can wrap them in blankets, use bookshelves, a sofa, or their crib… aka: things you already own… to create fantastic images. Don’t let it worry you too much.
Will you come to my home for the session?
Yes, I absolutely will. Some children do not do well outside of their home or won’t focus in new places. Please don’t feel like you have to have a perfectly spotless house for the session. Especially if you have a newborn or children, I completely understand how hectic life can be! My focus is not going to be on what size home you live in, your pile of laundry that needs to be folded, or anything other than creating the best images possible in your home. I will be looking for great sources of light. Beautiful windows that let light seep in, maybe a fun piece of furniture, or if you’ve got a cool bed for a family shot… it might just end up in the photo.
I have no idea where we should take photos. Can you recommend locations?
Why, yes. Yes, I can. When you schedule your session, we will sit down together to discuss the session, what our plan is, what type of images you’re looking for, and we’ll brainstorm several different locations. Brightly colored backgrounds aren’t for everyone. Neither are nature-y photos. Let me know what you’re looking for. I’ll make sure to find awesome places for you.
